With every passing year, I become more and more convinced that no one but me actually reads this blog. And I say this with no rancor \u2013 it\u2019s a lot, and if you really wanted to know, you could just ask. And if you were to ask me \u201cHey, what have you been up to?\u201d, you\u2019d get a paragraph, not a month-by-month breakdown that included most times I left the house. Still, I like to do it, if only as a reference guide for myself, someone who\u2019s terrible at remembering when things happened!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But thinking that no one was actually waiting for it isn\u2019t the only reason these 2025 posts have taken so long. The big one is I have another outlet to put my good writing and thoughts into the world: uppingthetempo.ca<\/a>! I trust you\u2019re all already subscribed, but if you\u2019re not, get on that!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And a minor reason is I\u2019ve also started a Letterboxd account: https:\/\/letterboxd.com\/danhershfield\/<\/a> Which takes care of my need to track when I saw what movie here. Though I suppose I might want to note who I saw it with\u2026 but surely my memory can track MOST of that, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And lastly, I now have the time to get through my backlog of things to do\u2026 though that\u2019s a story for 2026! For now, let\u2019s look at 2025!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

January<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to my calendar, my first social event of the year was \u201cDrinks with Jess.\u201d That certainly checks out!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, this is where I normally would tell you I saw The Count of Monte Cristo with Myles\u2026 but remember, I have that Letterboxd account! So instead, I\u2019ll tell you that through Facebook, I got a used IKEA Kitchen Island. Adulting!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I try Bobbie Sue\u2019s Mac and Cheese at Ian\u2019s. We were both a bit underwhelmed by the food\u2026 but the company was undoubtedly delightful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I learn a very German phrase that I\u2019m sure I\u2019ll find occasion to use at some point:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monica Wright Rogers is named the Tempo\u2019s first GM. I won\u2019t include all the Tempo news here\u2026 but that was a big one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And at the end of the month, I go see Taylor Tomlinson live. I go alone, which ends up being kind of an odd choice for a comedy show, but she\u2019s an emerging great, and I\u2019m happy to be a fan, so no regrets!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

February<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Okay, now\u2019s the time to REALLY check out my Letterboxd diary, because I did another month-long movie marathon to promote my Coldest Night of the Year walk. (And yes, for my own amusement.) This time, the theme (and hashtag) was ColdOldMovies, the idea being that every movie I watched had to be older than me. Saw some good classics, and yes, there was a movie night at Robin\u2019s in there too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Surprisingly, I also managed to get out from time to time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Evan, Jen and I saw Kumail Nanjiani. There was a trivia banquet, back when I was still doing that. (Spoiler alert: I\u2019ve stopped.) I went to Ian\u2019s to watch the SNL 50th<\/sup> hoopla. I went to see the Four Nations final with work\/neighbour Ian at the Queen\u2019s Head. And I went with Evan to watch the Raptors play the Celtics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
